The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of BrazilianVasco da Gama (0-1) in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday night. Hosts were rolled over by Argentinian Ferro (1-0) 73-40 . It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game without a history. Ferro led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Vasco da Gama to just 6 points in third quarter. Ferro dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Vasco da Gama 's 22. Ferro forced 22 Vasco da Gama turnovers and outrebounded them 43-26 including 30 on the defensive glass. Point guard Emiliano Lezcano (187-2001) fired 19 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Swingman Jonatan Torresi (190-1994) chipped in 17 points. produced 12 points and guard Pedro Nunes (199-2000) added 9 points respectively for lost side. Vasco da Gama's coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. It was the only win of guest team this round and in all other games host teams recorded victories. Ferro maintains first position with 1-0 record, which they share with Univ.Sucre. Vasco da Gama at the other side still closes the standings with one game lost. They share the position with Motilones. Ferro is looking forward to face Motilones (#3) in Cucuta in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Vasco da Gama will play on the road against the league's second-placed Univ.Sucre and hopes to get finally their first victory.
